I know we haven't posted here in some time, but we've been quite busy revamping the webpage and creating linked blogs so that we can update everything at once and try to stay on top of all the things! It's been a long learning process as technology keeps changing just when we think we've got a handle on it.

With that said, feel free to check out the new website and follow any and all of our authors on their new blogs! You can ask them questions and pester them mercilessly about when the next works are being released. We will try to update here more frequently and not just on Facebook and Twitter.

And yes, we are working on the final book of The Gauntlet Trilogy! There was some sidetracking and hair pulling, but the authors are back an track and working hard at getting it finished. Thank you so much for your excellent reviews and keeping us motivated.

Feel free to also follow us on Facebook and Twitter as we tend to blather there a bit more than we do here!

I know we've been promising you guys an edited version and it's FINALLY FINISHED! We also commissioned some new cover art to match the art on the second book (and we've also snagged our fabulous artist to do the third cover) so they will be matchy-matchy now.

The third book is coming along nicely, although I admit to spending far longer than expected editing the first book. I just wanted a really clean copy out there for the day when we can release the trilogy in one pretty set (and possibly offer a hard-copy since my own sister won't read it unless she can hold the paper version in her hands - seriously, the nerve of some people, LOL) but now it's ON TO BOOK THREE. That one is called The Choice of Weapons and the moment I get a teaser version of the cover I will be posting it.

ANYWAY, on to the links for the 2nd Edition of The Gauntlet Thrown for those interested in replacing their messy first edition:

(Isn't it gorgeous? Our cover artist is the amazing and talented Julija! Here is her DA page: http://luluha.deviantart.com/)

Clicking the cover will take you to the XC Publishing website. If it doesn't, just click here: http://xcpublishing.net/

In case you have trouble remembering, here's a basic rundown of the characters you'll find in The Gauntlet Trilogy:

BRYDON REDWING - A knight-priest from Falara on a quest to bring the fabled, magical Gauntlet of Ven-Kerrick back home, in order to marry the princess and ascend the throne.

TORYN OF REDOL - A footloose would-be assassin who tried to end Brydon's quest before it began. He now joins Brydon on his journeys, mostly to avoid returning home as a failed killer and admit he has grown to like the man he once set out to murder.

ALYN - A horse-obsessed woman kidnapped from her homeland, she is now embroiled in a conflict with people who once meant nothing to her, but for whom she now feels loyalty towards and, quite possibly, even some affection.

DAVIN - A silver-haired man rescued from slavers. Davin has abilities beyond even his knowledge. Will they be his salvation or lead to his ultimate destruction?

VERANA - A healer from the Order of the Rose, drawn into Brydon's troubles by her sense of duty and her profound respect for Jace the Wanderer.

JACE THE WANDERER - A wandering knight-priest from the Order of the Shield, Jace was rescued by Brydon and now works to recover the gauntlet and restore order to Ven-Kerrick and the Concurrence.

SHEVYN - A mute girl rescued from slavery by Toryn and protected by Brydon, who turned out to be the last descendent of the royal Ven-Kerrick family. Though restored to her throne, she knows her kingdom will not be safe until the Dark Master is defeated.

SELLARIS - A rebellious red-haired beauty obsessed with Brydon. She was responsible for removing the gauntlet from Ven-Kerrick and now works with the Dark Master to bring about the destruction of the northern kingdoms.

LAVAN - Sellaris's petulant brother. He seems to have little will of his own and is content to follow his sister from place to place and scam to scam.

GARYN - A turncoat from the band who stole the gauntlet, he befriended Toryn and now seeks to atone for his former deeds.

RAKYN - A Prince of Silver, he rules Darkynhold from the Black City. His powers rival Brydon's and he seems willing to train Brydon in their use--but at what price?

NYKAR - Friend, bodyguard, and confidant to Prince Rakyn.

DARYNA - Daughter of Haaryd, a Thalarii chieftan. She was ordered to guide Toryn to the sea, whereupon he abandoned her and earned her eternal wrath.

MIKYL - A Thalarii chieftan not content to rule his small band of riders. He once thought to marry Daryna, until she rode away with a despised man from the north. He seeks power over all of Thalarii and, eventually, the northern kingdoms, as well.

Brydon's quest was simple. Borrow the fabled Gauntlet of Ven-Kerrick, bring it home to prove his worth, marry the princess, and ascend the throne. He had planned for the dangerous terrain and Redolian assassins, but he did not expect the Gauntlet to be missing, nor to find the Kerrick royal family murdered. Luckily, his worst enemy was there to help him out.

Every author is inspired in one way or another when it comes to creating original fiction. Some are prompted by pictures, others inspired by quotes, and still others are motivated by real-life events. The origin of and inspiration for The Gauntlet Trilogy began with a simple roll of the die.

Cheryl Dyson, author of The Gauntlet Trilogy:
When I decided to write an epic fantasy novel, I wrote a list of twenty potential characters. I rolled a twenty-sized die and used the first seven. The original list:

1 The Bridegroom
2 The King
3 The Demon-possessed
4 The Assassin
5 The Animal Ruler
6 The Princess
7 The Spoiled Daughter
8 The Horsewoman
9 The Singer
10 The Healer
11 The Shape-changer
12 The Holy Man
13 The Child
14 The Hunter
15 The Runner
16 The Stargazer
17 The Silent One
18 The Witch
19 The One Who Hates Men
20 The Egotist

The first rolled was the Horsewoman (who became Alyn), then the Bridegroom (Brydon), the Healer (Verana), the Shape-changer (Davin), the Silent One (Shevyn), the Holy Man (Jace), and the Assassin (Toryn). I also checked off the Princess later, although there are quite a few of those. In Book Two I needed another character and pulled up the trusty list to roll the Child, who turned into Lyryn. An argument can be made that Daryna is the Spoiled Daughter, but she evolved naturally rather that being brought to life by the roll of an icosahedron.

On that page I also drew the first rough sketch of the map, which includes Redol, Falara, Akarska, Terris, Canaar, Penkangum, Ven-Kerrick, and Silver in vaguely the same locations they now inhabit.

And there you have it. A few rolls of a multi-sided die were all that it took to instigate the creation of a vast and sprawling world. Comment below and tell us what inspires you as a writer!
